Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception

Province of Saint Clare of Assisi

Our Congregation is founded on the spirit which moved Saint Francis of Assisi and his followers to “Live the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, following His footsteps in obedience, without property and in chastity’’ 2R 1.1; 1C 84.The way Saint Francis and his first followers gradually discovered the way by which the Spirit of God guided them, encouraged them to deprive themselves of everything, so as to live in a continual personal conversion, by which  they were able to discover Christ in their brother, poor and destitute. Being Christ the center of the Franciscan ideal led Frances and his followers to recognize God Himself as the All Good, Supreme Good. For Saint Francis and the brothers minor, of maximum importance in their lives was to give priority to the Spirit, taking special care to always serve God with pure minds and hearts. Their great love of God impelled them to encounter their Creator through prayers of continual praise and thanksgiving, blessing Almighty God whose goodness they always recognized as embellishing all creatures. 1R 23, 1

Our charism proceeds from the profound experience of God that the Holy Spirit granted to Saint Francis of Assisi, who, with a life of total conversion to God in prayer and in penance responded to the Divine invitation: “Francis, repair my Church” 2C 10. Therefore, our Congregation began with a profound character of conventual, monastic life, inherited from the Franciscan spirit of the Apostolic Colleges, transmitted by our founder, Padre Fray Jose del Refugio Morales Cordova, from the Apostolic College of the Propagation of theFaith in Pachuca. We were born at the end of the XIX century in the city of Mexico, in the midst of the secularization and desecration of the Republic. The need of the People of God was that of conserving, supporting and extending the values of consecrated life and defending the faith during that difficult era of the country. Since then, our charism is: to be constructive members in the Church through total self-giving to Christ, poor and humble, so as to restore the vineyard of the Lord through prayer, sacrifice and apostolic action.
