Our Founder, Fray Jose del Refugio Morales, following the example of Saint Francis of Assisi, who craved above all things to have the spirit of our Lord and His holy operation, and to pray continually to Him with a pure heart, exhorted our first sisters to love and union with God, saying: “It is natural that love should transform the lover to the person loved, such that this person becomes as that other”.    

 

To prepare ourselves to listen to God in the depth of our hearts, and realizing that the Word of God is food for the soul, it is important for us to reflect upon it so as to grow in the loving knowledge of our Creator. Contemplation of divine things and the assiduous union with God in prayer, therefore, is our first and principle duty, with Mary, who knew how to listen to the voice of God in silence and in contemplation, as a model.
